
Vietnamese Pho
Vietnamese Pho is a fragrant noodle soup that combines a rich beef broth with fresh herbs and spices. This iconic dish is perfect for any meal, offering a delightful balance of flavors and textures.
Ingredients
- 1 kg beef bones
- 500 g beef brisket, thinly sliced
- 1 onion, halved
- 2 ginger knobs, halved
- 5 star anise
- 5 cloves
- 1 stick of cinnamon
- 1 tbsp coriander seeds
- 1 tbsp salt
- 2 tbsp fish sauce
- 200 g rice noodles (bánh phở)
- Fresh herbs (basil, cilantro, mint)
- 1 lime, cut into wedges
- Bean sprouts
- Sliced chili peppers
- Hoison sauce (optional)
- Sriracha sauce (optional)
Instructions

Roast the beef bones in the oven at 200°C (400°F) for 30 minutes until browned.

In a large pot, combine the roasted bones, onion, ginger, star anise, cloves, cinnamon, coriander seeds, and salt. Cover with water and bring to a boil.

Reduce heat to low and simmer for at least 2 hours, skimming off any foam that forms on the surface.

After simmering, strain the broth through a fine-mesh sieve into a clean pot. Return the broth to the stove and add fish sauce to taste.

Cook the rice noodles according to package instructions, then drain and set aside.

To serve, divide the noodles among bowls, top with sliced brisket, and ladle hot broth over the top to cook the beef.
